The Generation Equality Forums have been postponed until the first half of 2021 due to ongoing measures to combat COVID-19, UN Women announced today. IWHC welcomes the decision as a necessary step to prioritize global health and ensure the participation of feminist activists worldwide.
Latin American and Caribbean feminists and Member States, met in Santiago, Chile for the XIV Regional Conference on Women in January. The meeting was held months after its initial postponement due to demonstrations and protests in Chile, led by feminists and other activists in response to the country’s growing social and economic inequalities.

UN Shortens Commission on the Status of Women in Light of Coronavirus, Expects Full CSW Later In 2020
Due to ongoing concern about Coronavirus transmission, Member States of the United Nations have agreed to hold a one-day meeting of the 64th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) on Monday, March 9, to adopt key agreements, postponing the substantive segments of the meeting to a later date. IWHC supports the decision to prioritize global health and the safety of participants, and urges the leadership of the Commission to ensure that feminist organizations and activists have the opportunity to engage with governments on issues critical to advance of gender equality.
The room was filled with anticipation as governments and women’s rights organizations gathered in the plenary hall at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) to adopt the Asia-Pacific Declaration on Advancing Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment: Beijing+25 Review.
