In June 2013, the Brazilian government abruptly suspended an HIV prevention campaign directed at sex workers and dismissed the head of the country’s HIV/AIDS department. This followed a similarly troubling move in 2011, when distribution of an anti-homophobia booklet was halted. In this letter (in both English and Portuguese), IWHC President Françoise Girard urges Brazil’s Health Minister, Alexandre Padilha, to reinstate HIV policies that are grounded in human rights and based on evidence.
