3rd Annual Girl Summit DC Will Focus on What Next Administration Must Do
On Thursday, October 20, the International Women’s Health Coalition and several partners—Population Council, Girls Not Brides USA, International Center for Research on Women, CARE—will host the 3rd Annual Girl Summit DC. This half-day event will bring together leading experts in the field of adolescent health and rights and government officials to discuss current programs focused on girls’ education, health, and rights and how to build on progress made over the last several years. They will explore what the next administration needs to do to carry this work forward and galvanize action to ensure girls have control over the bodies and futures.
The Summit “Keeping Our Promises to Adolescent Girls” will feature guest speakers Joyce Banda, former President of Malawi, and Mary Beth Goodman, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Development, Democracy, and Humanitarian Assistance at the National Security Council. They will be joined by Anna McGuire, a Teen Advisor for Girl Up and other experts in the field, including Kakeyna Ntaiya of the Kakenya Center for Excellence in Kenya and Daniela Ligiero, CEO of Together for Girls, who will moderate the discussions.
