IWHC’S VISION

The International Women’s Health Coalition (IWHC) recognizes that women’s and girls’ human rights, health and equality are essential to social, environmental, and economic justice for all.

We envision a world in which all women and girls can exercise their human rights to:

  • Access the information, resources, and services they need to enhance and protect their health and achieve their full potential;
  • Make informed decisions about their sexuality, relationships, pregnancy, child-bearing, and marriage and all other matters related to their sexual and reproductive health and rights, free of discrimination, coercion, and violence; and
  • Participate in and assume leadership of civil society movements to advance sexual and reproductive health and rights.

IWHC’S MISSION

IWHC advances the sexual and reproductive health and rights of women and young people, particularly adolescent girls, in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. IWHC furthers this agenda by supporting and strengthening leaders and organizations working at the community, national, regional, and global levels, and by advocating for international and U.S. policies, programs, and funding.

IWHC builds bridges between local realities and international policy by connecting women and young people in the Global South to key decision-makers. In doing so, IWHC brings local voices to global debates and in turn, makes global processes and policies more understandable and actionable at the local level.

PRIMARY PURPOSE AND FUNCTION

  • Provide administrative and programmatic assistance to the Advocacy and Policy Program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Advocacy and Policy Program Support

  • Assist with the preparation of strategies, annual budgets and workplans for the Advocacy and Policy Program.
  • Organize the logistics of special meetings or conferences, such as IWHC’s Advocacy in Practice trainings, including by drafting major expense memos, making travel arrangements for IWHC staff and participants, preparing materials, taking minutes, and preparing reports.
  • Coordinate the Advocacy in Practice Alumni Network and maintain communications with Advocacy in Practice alumni.
  • Support the coordination of various IWHC-led coalitions and caucuses.
  • Assist with monitoring the impact of IWHC’s advocacy and policy work, including by tracking key indicators for IWHC’s monitoring and evaluation framework.
  • Assist with monitoring relevant UN meetings and processes and identifying opportunities for IWHC involvement and leadership.
  • Monitor and collect publications on IWHC’s key issues and disseminate to advocacy and policy staff as appropriate. Monitor appropriate listservs.
  • Conduct research for and assist with drafting IWHC publications, articles, speeches, factsheets, reports, website and media work.
  • Track and disseminate opportunities for IWHC submissions to journals or participation in conferences and events.

 Grant-making

  • Assist in the grant-making process, including by drafting/editing grant justification memos, drafting grant award letters and ensuring that grant documentation, including proposals and supporting documentation, is in order.
  • Assist in tracking grant-making activity and conduct administrative follow-up, including management of data entry, routine correspondence with grantees, and monitoring of grantee reporting.

 Administrative Support

  • Handle routine telephone and email communications, including with colleagues and partners.
  • Arrange travel and accommodations for the Director, staff and for IWHC partners as required, including assistance in obtaining visas, outlining itineraries, sending advance materials, etc.
  • Assist in maintaining the calendar of the Director and scheduling appointments, calls and program team meetings.
  • Coordinate the development of agendas for internal meetings.
  • Manage expense reports and payment requests and help to monitor program spending.
  • Manage and maintain relevant portions of IWHC programmatic databases and accurate and organized file systems.
  • General office administrative tasks, including, but not limited to, responding to incoming calls and requests from the general public, faxing, photocopying, filing, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Passion for IWHC’s mission and a strong commitment to sexual and reproductive rights and health, human rights, and gender equality.
  • B.A. and one to two years administrative experience required, Masters in relevant field an advantage.
  • Fluent written and spoken English required; Spanish highly preferred.
  • Excellent written, verbal, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent computer and administrative skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and internet research.
  • Excellent listening and communications skills, with sensitivity to cultural communication differences and the ability to communicate directly and effectively with others.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, manage competing priorities, and work cooperatively, effectively and accurately under pressure.
  • A high level of self-motivation and ease at taking initiative and working independently.
  • Ability to show discretion and handle confidential issues.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and team spirit.
  • Pleasant, mature and diplomatic manner and disposition.
  • Willingness to work long hours, including occasional weekends, as needed.
  • Willingness to commit to the position for two years.

COMPENSATION: Competitive salary and excellent benefits, including generous vacation time, and no employee contribution for employee-only medical, dental and vision coverage, among others. Please note that there may be a need to work additional hours, including evenings of special events.
