The International Women’s Health Coalition strongly condemns the horrific massacre at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida this past weekend. Homophobia has a long and violent history in the United States and around the world. We must confront this brutality head on, and call it what it is: hatred.
IWHC believes that every person has inherent sexual rights: the right to express their sexuality and gender identity and to live free from harassment and violence. IWHC stands in full solidarity and works closely with LGBTI organizations in the United States and globally, who are fighting for these rights and building a better world.
IWHC notes that, in this case, the gunman was a known perpetrator of domestic violence, who should have never been able to purchase a gun. Women all over the world know all too well the lethal effects of toxic masculinity combined with weapons.
It’s time to end such violence—in all its forms. Enough is enough.
