Map: State Sponsored Homophobia

Yesterday when a coworker sent me the link to this map it really caught my eye – and made me want to hang it by my desk, right where I can see it.

This colorful map of the world shows where national governments sponsor homophobia. Though the name and mission of the organization that created this resource – the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA) – is very inclusive, the map only really focuses in on laws that affect same-sex couples in status of marriage equality, death penalty and imprisonment, and anti-discrimination laws. There isn’t really a visual representation of how trans and intersex people are affected.

You can download your very own colorful PDF version of this map from the ILGA, plus their very comprehensive text report on the status of LGBT rights around the world here. Documents are available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and French.
