Responding to Peru's Earthquake Disaster: LUNDU
On Wednesday, August 15, 2007, there was a severe earthquake in Peru. In the rural town of El Carmen, one of the most affected areas, IWHC's partner LUNDU has worked for years to empower young people who already face pervasive discrimination and obstacles to good health. Click here to read more about LUNDU's work in El Carmen, as described by their remarkable Executive Director Monica Carrillo.

Many people in El Carmen, including LUNDU staff, have lost family and friends to the disaster. Of the young people involved in LUNDU's programs, many of their homes were damaged, unsafe, and in some cases destroyed, and some are living on the streets. LUNDU's new youth center (pictured right), established with IWHC's support, was seriously damaged. On Thursday, August 16, IWHC made an emergency grant to LUNDU to assist them in finding immediate supplies and shelter, getting repairs started where possible, and for those whose homes were destroyed, building small temporary wooden houses.
If you would like to help us support LUNDU, we encourage you to donate as instructed below. All funds will be directed to LUNDU in their entirety.
