We’d like to promote an exciting initiative being put forth by a group of activists and organizations- including Grupo Lesbico Universitario, pictured above- working for a LGBT rights agenda in the Mexico City Legislative Congress. These advocates have joined forces to support and promote a reform to Article 146 of Mexico City’s Civil Code in order to redefine marriage and guarantee this right for same-sex couples.
With this reform, the article would read as follows:
Article 146.- Marriage is the free union of two people to create a life community in which both provide respect, equality and mutual help for one another.
The group writes:
The progress in the communication with legislators allows us to predict that there are favourable conditions for the approval of this reform, which was prompted by Representative David Razú and left-wing movements. In the face of such scenario, we are gathering all the possible strength from the civil society in order to support the reform.
If you would like to join in supporting this reform, you can do so by sending an e-mail with your name and/or the name of your organization to firstname.lastname@example.org
