capcritlogo150The Senate Appropriations Committee took a stand for the health and rights of women and girls by voting 17 – 11 to pass an amendment that would restrict a future President’s ability to reinstate the Global Gag Rule. Cosponsored by Sens. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Barbara Mikulski (D-MD), and Susan Collins (R-ME), the amendment prohibits the Untied States from imposing restrictions on foreign non-governmental organizations that it cannot impose on U.S.-based organizations.  If enacted it, would end the political football game where women are the only losers when their ability to access information and services is restricted, even when the information or services are provided with non-U.S. provided funds. The Senate Appropriations bill has yet to come to a vote on the floor, which is expected in September.
